The second part of Carolyn's birthday was a 5-hour cruise around to the Napali Coast and back. The cruise was run by Capt Andy's, and I highly recommend them to anyone interested in any kind of sightseeing cruise while in Kauai. They were terrific! The cruise included breakfast, lunch, drinks, and snorkelling instruction (weather permitting). Unfortunately, the weather did not cooperate, so we didn't get to do the snorkel thing. But, the cruise was great anyway.

We left at 8:00am and got back at about 1:00pm. We cruised up from the southwest side of the island and around to the Napali Coast. The sealife sightings were absolutely amazing. We saw giant sea turtles, hundreds of Hawaiian Spinner dolphins, and hump-back whales with calves. I have some pretty neat videos of the dolphins showing off, and one good video of one of the whales. At one point, we were right in the middle of hundreds of dolphins! They were all around us, and you'll see in the videos why they call them spinner dophins. They were really showing off for us!

It was a wonderful cruise, but today we're both sore as Hell from standing and keeping our balance on a moving boat for five hours. It's a good kind of soreness, though, and I wouldn't have traded the experience for anything.

For your viewing pleasure, here's some photos of our cruise:

Here's a couple of videos. The first one is our landing from the flight around the island. The second video was taken right after we left port on our Napali-Coast cruise. You can get some idea of how fast we were moving – about 18-20 knots.

NOTE: I took the sound out of the videos shot from the plane because all you could hear was the prop noise since we all had on Bose noise-reduction headphones. No sound on the videos shot from the boat because there was only wind noise.

We're having a great time…

Put this one in the "fun" category, MSN having itself a bit of fun pushing their latest warez using a supporting cast of Brian Baumgartner of NBC's "The Office" and four plucky harmonizers: It's worth noting that while the Society in no way endorses the use of MSN products themselves, we do happily endorse the inclusion of four-part harmony to help sell said products. Enjoy!

Every August, the Barbershop Harmony Society holds Harmony University, a weeklong music education workshop, on campus. I decided it was time to find out a litlle bit more about the hundreds of barbershop Quartet members who descend on Missouri Western every summer and entertain us in four-part harmony while we work. So I arranged to shadow a Harmony U. attendee, and at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 4. the fifth day of the workshop, I lound myself sitting in on their general session in the Potter Hall theater. I've been to a lot of conferences and workshops before. But...
